Joh. Jos. Christoffel Erben, 400 Years of Tradition

Wonderful Rieslings from the steep slopes of the Mosel. The renowned winery belonged to the Christoffel family for 400 years, until Hans-Leo Christoffel sought a successor in 2001 and handed over the estate. After his retirement, he passed on his deep knowledge of Riesling winemaking to the next generation.

Controlled spontaneous fermentation in used Fuder barrels and the deliberate avoidance of chemical additives are the key to extracting maximum finesse from the Erdener Treppchen and the Ürziger Würzgarten. This traditional method of Riesling production stands to this day for clear fruit, elegance and longevity.

Our oenologist Philippe Conzen continues this time-honoured approach. Distribution is carried out jointly with Weingut Mönchhof, while winemaking and ageing remain independent.
