Our History since 1177

Mönchhof Wine Estate in Ürzig is among the oldest estates on the Moselle. As early as 1177, Pope Alexander III confirmed the Cistercian Abbey of Himmerod as the owner of the vineyards in Ürzig. During this period, the vaulted cellar that still exists today was constructed. The present estate building dates back to 1509. Following secularisation under Napoleon, the property was reassigned at an auction in Paris in 1804.

Mönchhof has long been renowned for its Rieslings from distinguished sites. Diverse slate terroirs and the steep slopes surrounding Ürzig form the foundation for wines of character and precision. Traditional craftsmanship and modern oenological expertise shape the estate's style.

Today, our oenologist Philippe Conzen is responsible for the ageing of the wines. Under his leadership, time-honoured tradition and a clear understanding of terroir are reflected in the wines, confirming the standing of Weingut Mönchhof on the Mosel.
